The Role

Reporting to the IT Infrastructure Manager, this role will be heavily involved in the IT Infrastructure function for MRL; providing highly effective network and systems whilst minimising disruption to services. Critical to your success will be your technical knowledge and expertise, coupled with exceptional stakeholder management and engagement. The team ethos centres on internal customers and ensuring delivery of services.

The role is based at our Head Office in Applecross, and will usually span traditional Monday to Friday routines. From time to time, flexibility is expected to complete actions that do not fall inside traditional office hours. Occasional travel to remote sites and participation in an on-call roster is an inherent requirement of the role.

The Responsibilities

  • Develop and install highly available network infrastructure
  • Planning, design, installations and integration of new network systems and upgrades
  • Support networking strategy within international business
  • Provide break/ fix support of network environment
  • Provide expert advice on networking technologies
  • Participate in requests, incidents and problems as well as managing and coordinating urgent and complicated issues
  • Undertake infrastructure projects, such as server hardware and software deployments, remote office setups
  • Assist in development of business continuity plan and improve resilience of network infrastructure

Qualifications and Experience

  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) – Highly regarded
  • Demonstrated 5 years working in a network-engineering role, with a demonstrated ability to develop an enterprise networking strategy
  • Excellent networking knowledge
  • Demonstrated change management skills
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Expert knowledge in evolving networking strategies and trends
  • Good broad technical understanding of hardware, software, applications, networks, communications technologies

Technical Skills

  • Enterprise WAN/LAN/VOIP design, administration and implementation
  • Excellent knowledge of Data Centre Networking
  • Excellent knowledge of Enterprise Routing Protocols (BGP, OSPF and RIP)
  • Excellent knowledge of the Cisco Suite of products
  • Excellent knowledge of Enterprise IPMAN/IPWAN services design implementation and maintenance
  • Experience with VLAN technologies and network planning
  • Experience with VPN technologies and remote site connectivity
  • Experience with Unified Threat Defence
  • Experience with network service relocation
