About the role
To support our growing business needs and requirements, a newly created role has arisen for an experienced Mine Closure Specialist / Environmental Engineer to join our Applecross based team.
Reporting to our Principal Advisor – Compliance / Closure, you will use your demonstrated experience in mine closure and rehabilitation within the resources industry in WA to deliver closure landform designs suitable for progressive execution over the life of mine to meet post close objectives.

- The management of MRL environmental compliance portfolio in alignment with MRL policy and legislation
- Manage mine closure and environmental rehabilitation requirements for the company.
- Lead the process of environmental risk management within the company.
- Responsible for the development / maintenance of the MRL environmental management system
- Responsible for the submission of all statutory regulatory reports in accordance with identified legal obligations
- Lead and/or undertake internal audits and facilitate external environmental audits and inspections
- Responsible to develop, implement and monitor corrective actions resulting from incidents, audit and inspections
- Develop and lead a program to educate the MRL workforce on environmental conditions and commitments
- Ensure site specific Rehabilitation Plans and schedules are managed and implemented
- Managing project compliance schedules (including rehabilitation schedules) to ensure deadlines are met and stakeholders are kept informed on progress
- Liaise with relevant external stakeholders regarding matters of compliance, rehabilitation and closure.
- Monitor and provide advice to the company on relevant environmental compliance and closure matters
About You
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in environmental requirements that apply to the mining industry including, but not limited to:
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in auditing compliance within key WA legislation.
- Ability to differentiate between critical, major and minor instances of non-compliance and to respond accordingly.
- Knowledge of environmental auditing procedures and methodology.
- Understanding of Environmental and Safety Management Systems
- Strong Excel and Word skills.
- Mapinfo/GIS skills (not mandatory).
