The Opportunity

MinRes is seeking a skilled and motivated Energy Geologist to play a pivotal role for the interpretation and evaluation of seismic and other subsurface data in the Perth and Carnarvon Basin resulting in the generation of new leads and prospects.

This is a hands-on position, that makes a significant contribution to the growth of the ultimate resource assessment of plays and new portfolio additions.

For this position you will report directly to the Principal Geophysicist, and you will be based at our Head Office in Osborne Park, and on occasions oversee projects up onsite as the business requires.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide interpretation and evaluation of 2D and 3D seismic data to generate leads and concepts to build the portfolio and mature leads to drillable prospects
  • Integrate geophysical and geological data and deliver prospect to play based evaluation of exploration permits and new ventures opportunities
  • Use all available seismic technology and techniques to extract maximum attribute information from seismic and well datasets
  • Support input to the planning, acquisition and processing of new seismic data
  • Carry out and QC processing and reprocessing of seismic data
  • Complete field reservoir mapping where required to support construction of reservoir models

What is Required

  • Experience in upstream oil and gas exploration
  • Demonstrated track record in onshore 2D and 3D seismic interpretation and processing leading to generation of prospects and oil and gas discoveries.
  • Experience in seismic attribute analysis (AVO, AVA, spectral decomposition)
  • Good knowledge of principles of sequence and seismic stratigraphy and structural geology leading to construction of regional structure and gross depositional environment maps and play maps.
  • Some experience in potential fields interpretation
  • Skilled in probabilistic volumetrics and risk assessment
  • Well-developed communication skills– both oral and written
  • Ability to work autonomously and within a team environment
