About the Role

To support our continued expansion across our Project division, we are seeking an experienced GIS Officer where you will be an integral member joining our Environmental Compliance Team.  The primary responsibility will be to support the MinRes Project Development team in the expansion of large green fields projects by providing technical support for spatial data management, mapping, and analysis.

This will be a hands-on position reporting directly to the Senior GIS Analyst, assisting with managing high frequency data transactions, version control, file conversions, storage, and dissemination of critical information as required by the team. The ideal candidate will have experience working with environmental spatial data in the context of a mining operation and will understand land use mapping, environmental and heritage approvals, and government regulatory reporting requirements.

For this position you will be predominantly located at our corporate Applecross office, and soon to be reallocating to a new state of the art Head Office in Osborne Park, which is set to be the best office facility in Australia.

In this position you’ll:

  • Create and maintain the structures necessary for best practice GIS data management.
  • Digitise information from documentation and non-spatial information into GIS datasets.
  • Image interpretation and digitising of features from aerial photography, such as land disturbance.
  • Data QC - Interrogate, capture, collate, format and load datasets into master GIS schemas.
  • Data QA - Liaise with business specialists to review and validate data captured.
  • Translate GIS data between different formats and coordinate systems. Skills in FME are beneficial.
  • Manipulate, analyse, and present geographical information using ArcGIS Pro

Necessary skills and qualifications:

  • At least 3 years applied experience using GIS in a natural resource management, mining, or large construction operation
  • A bachelor’s degree, specialist qualification or equivalent applied experience in GIS, Cartography, Spatial Science or Environmental Sciences
  • Strong computer skills, with experience using ESRI products.
  • GIS software’s highly desirable
  • Well-developed communication skills– both oral and written
  • Ability to work autonomously and within a team environment
  • Meet deadlines and manage priorities to meet deadlines
  • Attention to detail
