About the role

This position will be working from our state-of-the-art office in Osborne Park which feature leading-edge office fit-out and technology, a gym, creche, café, and restaurant, and have easy access to public transport.

In the Lead Civil Designer role you will be responsible for the day-to-day development of civil design for process and non-process mining related infrastructure including bulk earthworks, drainage, roads and rail. The Designs will be developed using 12D and drawings using AutoCAD whilst applying best practice into the designs whilst conforming to relevant standards and endeavouring to find the most cost-effective solutions.

The Lead Civil Designer provides a key interface for other MRL business entities including Mining Services, MinRes Energy and the Environmental and Heritage teams, where project constraints are established and incorporated into the design from an early stage.

  • Interface with the Engineering and Project teams during design development of assigned areas;
  • Facilitate detail 2D and 3D model development of mining operations infrastructure including light vehicle and haulage roads, stockyards, pipelines, railway, process plant pads, camp and buildings pads;
  • Proficient with 12D and AutoCAD programs and survey data;
  • Produce 2D design drawing for construction including plan and profile road designs;
  • Develop bulk earthworks design detail including bill of quantities;
  • Water storage infrastructure including water storage dams, turkey nests and sedimentation ponds;
  • Ensure that designs are accurately completed within assigned project schedule; and
  • Management of drawing quality and adherence to CAD standards.

In this position you’ll:

  • Work closely with Management teams and the Lead Civil Engineer during the design life of our projects;
  • Attend site visits as required to early identify design constraints and other design considerations for feeding back to the design; and
  • Interface with the Engineering and Project teams during design development of assigned areas.

Necessary skills and qualifications:

  • Diploma or Associate Degree in Civil & Structural Engineering
  • 8+ years’ industry experience
  • Experience working with similar large scale mining construction projects
  • Strong written, verbal communication and team membership skills
  • Desire to implement and follow through on multiple issues and projects to achieve productive results
  • High level of PC literacy across AutoCAD suite, Navisworks, Microsoft Office Packages and Civil & Structural drafting packages
  • Demonstrate a positive “can-do” attitude
  • A real desire to implement and follow through on multiple issues and projects to achieve productive results
