The Opportunity
As a Project Metallurgist, you will play a critical role in developing and executing improvement projects across the Wodgina on an 8x6 roster. You’ll optimise plant operations, identify and implement improvement initiatives, and lead key projects from conception through to completion. Your strong technical expertise will drive operational success, while your commitment to safety and collaborative leadership will help shape our high-performing team culture.

This role is available on an 18-month contract based on an 8D 6RR roster FIFO from Perth. 

Key responsibilities 

  • Identify, report, and resolve hazards to maintain a safe workplace.
  • Optimise plant unit operations through surveys, data analysis, and test work.
  • Identify, scope, and deliver improvement projects that enhance plant performance.
  • Lead metallurgical projects end-to-end, delivering on schedule and within budget.
  • Forecast, calculate, and monitor project benefits using laboratory and plant data.
  • Prepare and manage project plans, timelines, resources, and risk assessments.
  • Coordinate large-scale plant trials and support operational readiness activities.
  • Conduct laboratory test work to validate improvement initiatives.
  • Communicate project progress through regular reports and presentations to senior management and other stakeholders.
  • Provide technical support to Metallurgy, Processing, and Maintenance teams.

What you’ll bring to the team

  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in mineral processing.
  • Hands-on experience with oxide or base metal flotation (essential).
  • Previous experience in lithium processing (desirable).
  • Proven ability to deliver improvement projects from concept to completion.
  • Strong technical, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and the MinRes values.

 

About Wodgina
The Wodgina lithium operation is located 120km south of Port Hedland in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. MinRes manages all mining operations at Wodgina, including a spodumene concentrate processing plant with an annual capacity of 900,000 tonnes (SC5.5).
