Our ground-breaking Onslow Iron project, located at our Ashburton Hub, is a key part of our ambitious plans to substantially grow our iron ore footprint in the Pilbara. From a clean slate we’re building things from the ground up, providing a full pit-to-ship logistics solution with extraordinary infrastructure and first-of-its-kind innovation. This $2.4 billion project includes new port, stockyards, 150kms of the largest private road in WA, new dry process plant and two brand-new resort-style camps.

About the role

Reporting to the Project Manager, as the Senior Project Engineer you’ll play a key role in moving this project into its Delivery Phase - encompassing early development work, mine site development, bulk ore transportation system, port works and mine processing plant.

This is a hands on position that will be closely involved with all project phases, functions and personnel.

The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for ensuring the effective coordination and control of engineering works for the Project through activities of technical, engineering, scheduling, planning, survey, procurement and quality control. This includes managing an efficient turnaround of the vendor supplied documentation and timely completion of the GSA’s to ensure all elements are achieved for successful installation and commissioning of the equipment, and that services and goods are delivered in a timely manner to achieve project deliverables.

 Your key responsibilities

  • Effectively manage the engagement of suppliers and engineering service providers;
  • Responsible for the completion of GSA’s and project scopes of work for approval;
  • Regularly monitor, review and return vendor data in a timely manner;
  • Regularly review project schedules to ensure that delivery times are met aligned to schedules and effectively communicate with key stakeholders on progress;
  • Engage with the supplier and internal departments to ensure that the goods are transported and cleared through customs in line with the project requirements;
  • Liaise with the QA Department to ensure that all quality requirements are met and that all Company procedures are followed;
  • Interface with the MRL Procurement Department to ensure that all consumables, first fills, commissioning and critical spares are procured and delivered in line with project specific requirements;
  • Arrange and complete all refurbishment work required for existing plant both on site and held as stock within the Company;
  • Act as the focal point regarding technical queries for suppliers and engineering service providers and respond to all queries within skill set and knowledge in a timely manner;
  • Assist in any other activities within scope of experience to ensure that all equipment required for the Wodgina Lithium Expansion Project is delivered to site on time and in a suitable condition for installation;
  • Regular ad hoc reporting as requested, including tracking of progress on all equipment packages.

We’re looking for someone with proven hands on project delivery experience in a similar role, preferably within an iron ore project across a broad scope of disciplines.

What you will bring to the team

  • Tertiary Qualification in Civil Engineering
  • Demonstrated skills in managing project controls and schedules
  • Excellent communication skills with internal and external clients
  • Proven ability to maintain good relationships with both clients, suppliers and the project team
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage time effectively
  • High level of computer literacy (operating systems, office products, engineering tools)
  • A real desire to implement and follow through on multiple issues and projects to achieve productive results
  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience in a similar position
  • Roads and Earthworks related industry experience working on large construction projects
  • Diverse project experience from the design phase through to commissioning
