The Opportunity
The Senior Resource Development Geologist is responsible for defining and evaluating the drill planning and execution of Resource Development programs that add value to existing resources, identify new viable ore bodies and ultimately to extend the deposit Life of Mine (LOM) for our Lithium operations.
You will play a lead role with engaging with multiple stakeholders to ensure that the Resource Development programs are adhering drilling requirements, whilst providing strong leaderships skills to help drive and mentor a team to achieve deliverables.
This will be a hands-on position reporting directly to the Superintendent- Lithium Resource Development and you will be on a regular 8/6 roster based at our MinRes Lithium sites.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and guidance to junior members of the Res Dev team in the fields of safety, environmental stewardship.
- Lead or participate in relevant incident/accident investigations to ensure that all Res Dev incidents and injuries are fully reviewed and that effective corrective actions are identified and enacted in a timely manner.
- Manage a team of Res Dev Geologists, including the provision of work planning, coaching/mentoring, performance management and support for professional development.
- Manage relationships with key Business Partners (e.g. drilling, earthworks, water / rock suppliers), and ensure compliance with MinRes policies, procedures and standards at all times.
- Provide technical leadership to the Res Dev team in the fields of ore knowledge deposit models and targeting, and data generation, quality control, manipulation and interrogation.
- Generate and promote Res Dev targets that align with strategic mining Res Dev strategy and LOM production profile. Report periodically in line with corporate and government requirements on all facets of Res Dev target development.
- Design and execute Res Dev programs, including track drilled Res Dev program activities to comply with the POW and LAP (Land Activity Permit) processes.
- Manage the execution of Res Dev projects to ensure that they are completed to plan, on time and within budget.
- Ensure all geological data is captured accurately and efficiently in the database.
- Ensure that QAQC of assay data and downhole surveys is completed and reported on in line with MinRes standards.
- Coordinate closely with mine planning team to ensure that Res Dev drill programs are sequenced effectively.
What is required?
- Extensive experience in open pit and or underground mining and Resource Development industry (preferred)
- A tertiary qualification (Bachelor’s degree or higher) in geology or a related discipline.
- Strong understanding of diamond and RC drilling programmes in operating mines
- Experience managing contracts and contractors, particularly with respect to drilling
- Strong Leadership skills with the ability to mentor and coach a team
- Sound knowledge of safety and safe work systems in operating mines
- Experience in GIS and 3D modelling software (e.g. Leapfrog and / or Vulcan, AcQuire).
- Relevant Professional Association membership (AIG or MAUSIMM).
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work independentlyVery strong communication (verbal and written) skills
- Valid C Class manual driver’s licence
- Senior First Aid and 4WD course certificate
