The Opportunity

Reporting to the Senior Shipping and Logistics Officer, the Shipping Operations Officer is primarily responsible for the handle of bulk shopping operations of Newcastlemax, Capesize, and Babycape vessels for export.

This role will be based in our head office in Osborne Park.

Key responsibilities;

  • Oversee shipping operations, including the preparation of charter parties, management of vessel operational issues, and coordination with discharge ports and agents for Iron Ore export shipments.
  • Develop and optimise shipment schedules, ensuring alignment with the shipping schedule and port line-up, while coordinating closely with port authorities, shipping brokers, agents, and the marketing team.
  • Liaise with the Product Quality department to coordinate shipment dates, ensuring product readiness and quality requirements are met.
  • Provide regular updates and forecasts on shipping activities to the Marketing and Port Operations teams.
  • Supply accurate shipping-related cost information to the Accounts department for month-end accruals and review freight invoices to ensure timely payment.
  • Take responsibility for laytime calculations and ensure smooth handling of all shipping documentation and freight calculations for Iron Ore exports.
  • Maintain and update systems to facilitate seamless communication and coordination between Operations, Shipping, Marketing, and Product Quality teams.
  • Conduct vessel vetting and compliance checks to ensure adherence to safety and regulatory standard

 

What is Required?

  • Relevant degree qualification is highly regarded
  • Minimum 3 years experience in a similar role and industry
  • Good understanding of international bulk shipping terms and regulations
  • Vessel operations knowledge
  • High degree of capability with Microsoft Software
