The opportunity

The Mine Closure Advisor will play a pivotal role providing technical advice and support to the business in closure planning, management and minimisation of risks and impacts on the physical environment as they relate to closure.

This role involves having strong stakeholder engagement with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, to ensure the development of baseline studies and site closure plans to meet project and our regulatory requirements.

Your primary responsibilities:

  • Assist mine closure team in the development of closure designs and studies.
  • Undertake project planning and coordination for research and development projects.
  • Work with site personnel and contractors to ensure the development of baseline studies and site closure plans to meet project and regulatory requirements.
  • Collate and issue mine closure plans as required.
  • Assist in the development of business closure standards and procedures.
  • Update and maintain GIS datasets for input into closure liability estimates (ARO and LOM)
  • Assist with approvals applications and participate in external regulatory compliance audits (as required) across the operations.
  • Assist with sampling and analysis work of mineral waste, soil and contaminated sites as required to address knowledge gaps in landform design

What is required?

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering (Mining, Civil or Environmental) Surveying, Environmental Science, Geoscience, or similar
  • Strong Mine closure / environmental restoration experience, preferably within mining industry highly desirable 
  • Demonstrated technical writing skills (Drafting mine closure plans, scope of work etc.)
  • Understanding and the ability to interpret environmental legislation, guidelines, standards and other requirements relevant to the Mining Industry.
  • Demonstrated experience providing strategic and operational closure advice to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Project management and/or contractor management experience
  • Strong computer skills, with exposure to ArcGIS or similar mapping software highly desirable.
