The Opportunity

Reporting to the Principal Mining Engineer – LoM Planning, you will develop mine plans across various time horizons from 5 year through to Life of Mine, supporting sustaining project studies for MinRes' iron ore operations.

You will engage with a broad range of stakeholders to ensure business-wide objectives and constraints are embedded into long-term planning outcomes.

Working across corporate offices and in close collaboration with operations, Technical Services and the design and construction teams. You will play a key role in unlocking value through mine life extension, greenfields projects and high quality mine closure planning.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain mining models from first principles, reflecting updated resource knowledge, extraction assumptions, sensitivity analysis and operational performance
  • Conduct pit optimisations and pit shell selections to maximise strategic value
  • Produce designs for ultimate pits, stages, waste dumps and mine layouts to support strategic level mine planning
  • Engage with key stakeholders across the business to develop a thorough understanding of objectives and constraints that inform strategic planning assumptions and decisions
  • Synthesise and process data to develop useable, repeatable assumptions for input into strategic mine plans
  • Scope, design and integrate rehabilitation and closure planning into greenfields and project execution phases
  • Undertake scenario and project analysis to support approvals, reserve reporting and life extension opportunities
  • Develop and adjust mine layouts in response to strategic risks and opportunities, including detail to support primary and secondary mining approvals and efficient mine closure

What is Required:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering or related discipline  
  • Extensive experience in operational mining engineering or strategic mine planning roles highly regarded
  • Advanced skills in mine planning software (Vulcan, Surpac, Minemax, Alastri suite of programs) with advanced skills in MS Office, Power BI and GIS tools highly regarded
  • Experience within bulk commodity supply chains and multiple commodities and/or multiple processing environments
  • Experience in a production analysis and improvement role highly regarded
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Ability to prioritise workloads and manage competing demands to meet targets
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with a collaborative and agile mindset
