The Opportunity
Reporting to the Principal Tactical Mine Planning Engineer, you will translate strategic mine plans into executable medium-term operational schedules that maximise safety, efficiency, and value.
You will develop detailed designs that integrate operational feedback, optimise equipment utilisation, and enhance production outcomes. Working closely with key stakeholders across both site and head office, you will adapt plans to changing site conditions, support continuous improvement initiatives, and ensure compliance with regulatory and environmental requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Produce executable mine schedules within the 1–5 year tactical planning horizon that can be easily digested into the site operational schedules
- Develop “operational ready” pit, waste dump, haul road and infrastructure (Stockpile, ROM and Go-line etc.) designs aligned with geotechnical, safety and productivity requirements
- Monitor schedule compliance, analyse variances, and recommend corrective actions to meet production targets
- Collaborate closely with operations, geology, processing, and maintenance to ensure plans reflect current operational capabilities and constraints
- Collaborate closely with Geotechnical, Project Services, Closure, Compliance, Tenure and Approvals teams to ensure plans and designs adhere to all standards, safety regulations, and environmental conditions
- Optimise fleet allocation, haulage routes, and cycle times to improve productivity and reduce costs
- Update and verify spatial data, geological models and survey information for accurate planning
- Identify and implement improvements to planning processes, tools, and scheduling methodologies
- Provide guidance and mentoring to junior engineers, promoting planning discipline and operational understanding
What is Required:
- Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering or equivalent - WA Quarry Manager Certificate of Competency highly regarded
- Extensive experience in operational mining engineering or technical mine planning roles with in the 2 – 5 year horizon’s highly regarded
- Advanced skills in mine planning software (Vulcan, Surpac, Deswik, MineSched) with advanced skills in MS Office, Power BI and GIS tools highly regarded
- Experience using fleet management systems and analysing operational data to inform plan and design outcomes
- Proven ability to develop realistic, achievable plans in collaboration with multiple functional teams
- Experience with open pit operations, shift scheduling, equipment allocation, haulage optimisation, and integration of environmental conditions into plans
- Understanding of ore blending, grade control, QA/QC, geotechnical constraints, and safety standards in tactical planning
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with a focus on continuous improvement
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with a collaborative and agile mindset
