The Opportunity

Due to extensive growth, MinRes's corporate Technical Services division is seeking a Senior Native Title Advisor to join our team. This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of law, community engagement and mining operations, a niche specialty where few legal professionals get to build their career.

You'll play a key role in managing MinRes's relationships with native title parties and their communities across all of our mining and energy projects, spanning the West Pilbara, Central Pilbara and potentially our energy assets. Day-to-day, you'll work across existing Native Title and Heritage Protection agreements and negotiating  new agreements under the Future Acts regime. You will be covering everything from exploration licences through to mining leases, with obligations touching heritage, environmental approvals, contracting, employment and commercial matters. Some responsibilities include;

• Negotiating Native Title agreements for existing and new mining tenure, exploration permits, including for gas and energy projects.
• Conducting legal interpretation and analysis of existing and new agreements.
• Ensuring day-to-day compliance with agreement obligations across all projects.
• Drafting and negotiating agreements alongside lawyers representing Native Title parties.
• Providing advice to internal business teams on heritage, environmental, employment, contracting and commercial requirements.
• Facilitating engagement meetings with native title parties and preparing associated meeting materials and documentation.
• Assisting with Land Activity Permit (LAP) assessments, using a mapping system to review proposed activities against agreement terms.

What is required?

• Law degree or equivalent legal qualification
• Strong legal interpretation and analysis skills
• Experience engaging with Traditional Owners or Aboriginal communities
• Resources industry experience
• An empathetic, culturally aware approach to working with Aboriginal people

Desirable – not Essential

• Experience with Prescribed Body Corporates (PBCs) or Aboriginal corporations
• Experience drafting and negotiating agreements
• GIS or mapping system familiarity
• Current practising certificate (not required, but supported if held)
