The Opportunity:

Our CSI - Brockman Haulage Team have a vacancy for an experienced Senior Safety Advisor, looking for an 8:6 FIFO roster. This role will report directly into the Manager Haulage where you will be part of a small team of safety professionals and assist the project in creating a high-performing safety culture.

This position supports MRL’s focus to provide a safe work environment by providing specialised service and advice to employees and Management in the provision of all Workplace Health and Safety functions, including risk management, hazard, identification, workplace inspections, safety audits, mentoring and incident investigations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, review and maintain Safety Management Plans and Project Risk Registers, ensuring currency, formal change control, and effective control of all tasks including Critical Tasks.
  • Manage timely reporting and communication with DMIRS and Clients, including incident, hazard and non-compliance reporting via the INX system.
  • Coordinate health and hygiene monitoring programs (noise, dust, hazardous substances, drinking water) and manage exceedances per site plans.
  • Lead incident and hazard investigations, trend analysis and corrective/preventative actions to drive continuous safety performance improvement.
  • Provide guidance, coaching and support to Safety Advisors, ESOs, Medics, contractors and site personnel on safety standards, legislation and Critical Risk Management.
  • Build strong stakeholder relationships to support risk assessments, JHAs, SWIs, audits, inspections and emergency response readiness.
  • Maintain compliance registers, statutory appointments and training/induction records in line with legislative obligations.
  • Represent safety in pre-start, Return to Work and Safety Committee meetings, and liaise with regulators (e.g. DMIRS) as required.
  • Support the Injury Management and Return to Work program, and monitor PPE compliance across site.

What will you bring?

  • Occupational Health and Safety (advanced Diploma minimum requirement)
  • Current C Class Drivers licence
  • Lead Auditor Qualification (Desirable)
  • ICAM or TAP Root Investigation Technique Qualification
  • Rio Tinto Inducted would be an advantage but not essential
  • Previous experience as a Senior Safety Advisor in a similar environment
  • Knowledge of Risk Management and Loss Prevention techniques.
  • Experience in the development and implementation of safety management systems.
  • Experience in the practical application of safety in a heavy industrial/mining industry.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of Western Australia Occupational Health and Safety, Workers' Compensation Legislation, Regulations, Standards and Codes of Practice.
  • Strong relationship building, influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent communication skills - both verbal and written
  • Demonstrated leadership and teamwork skills.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, negotiation, facilitation, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to think creatively and laterally.
