The Opportunity

Reporting to the Director Technical, The General Manager – Water, Tailings and Geotechnical is responsible for the strategic leadership, governance and technical oversight of water management, tailings storage facilities (TSF’s) and geotechnical risks across the company’s mining operations and projects. This role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, promotes sustainability and safeguards the integrity of critical infrastructure throughout the project lifecycle – from design and construction to closure.

Key responsibilities;

  • Develop and implement long-term strategies for integrated water, tailings, and geotechnical management
  • Provide expert leadership to multidisciplinary teams and collaborate with corporate and site leadership, HSE and sustainability functions
  • Represent the company with regulators, communities, joint venture partners, and stakeholders on matters related to tailings and water stewardship
  • Oversee and be involved in design, construction, operation, monitoring and closure of TSF’s and water management systems, supporting independent technical reviews and audits
  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards and regulations (e.g., ANCOLD); identify, assess, and mitigate geotechnical, water, and tailings risks across sites
  • Drive responsible water use, balance operational, environmental, and community needs
  • Build and lead a high-performing team of engineers and specialists; mentor future leaders and foster a culture of excellence and continuous improvement
  • Apply strong financial understanding in preparing and managing budgets and schedules; oversee cost control and documentation

 

What is required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, Civil Engineering, Environmental or related field
  • Extensive experience in the mining industry preferred, including other senior positions
  • Proven expertise in tailings and water management with exposure to brownfields and Greenfields preferred
  • Sound understanding of international tailings standards
