The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Strategic Senior Mine Planning Engineer to lead the development of pit optimisations, strategic mine plans and sustaining project studies across our iron ore operations.

This is a senior technical role with responsibility for shaping Life of Mine planning outcomes, identifying and assessing strategic opportunities and risks, and providing high-quality technical advice to support major business decisions. You will work across resource, operations, processing, approvals and project teams to develop robust, practical and value-driven mine plans.

You will bring a strong understanding of strategic mine planning and use your technical expertise to influence stakeholders, challenge assumptions and support the long-term performance, sustainability and closure readiness of our operations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead pit optimisation, pit shell selection and Life of Mine planning for iron ore operations.
• Develop strategic mine designs, including ultimate pits, stages, waste dumps and mine layouts.
• Maintain mining models and planning assumptions using updated resource, operational and performance data.
• Deliver scenario analysis and technical studies to support project approvals, reserve reporting, sustaining projects and mine life extension opportunities.
• Identify and develop solutions for strategic risks, operational constraints and value opportunities.
• Integrate rehabilitation, closure and approvals requirements into mine plans and project designs.
• Partner with operational, technical and project stakeholders to align mine plans with business objectives.
• Provide senior technical guidance, influence decision-making and mentor developing engineers.

What you will bring

• Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or an equivalent discipline.
• Significant experience in strategic mine planning, Life of Mine planning, pit optimisation and mine design within a large-scale mining environment.
• Strong exposure to iron ore, bulk commodity operations or integrated mine-to-market supply chains.
• Demonstrated experience delivering technical studies, strategic assessments and investment-quality mine planning outcomes.
• Strong commercial acumen and the ability to understand the broader operational and business implications of technical decisions.
• Advanced analytical, problem-solving and scenario-modelling capability.
• The ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality work to challenging timeframes.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder-engagement skills, including the ability to clearly explain complex technical matters to varied audiences.
• A practical, improvement-focused mindset with a strong interest in standardisation, systematisation and technology-enabled automation.

The following will be highly regarded:

• WA Quarry Manager Certificate of Competency.
• Experience across multiple commodities, processing environments or mining methods.
• Experience in production analysis, operational improvement or mine optimisation.
• Exposure to JORC reserve reporting and Competent Person requirements.
• Experience leading technical workstreams, mentoring engineers or influencing multidisciplinary teams.
