The Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity to join MinRes Air in a key safety role, where you will play an important part in strengthening and maintaining our Aviation Safety Management System (SMS). As the Safety Assurance Officer, you will contribute to a strong safety culture by leading aviation safety assurance activities, including audits and investigations, in line with MinRes Air’s policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.
Working across MinRes Air and with third-party providers supporting our CASR Part 119 and CASR Part 121 air transport operations and CASR Part 145 Approved Maintenance Organisation (AMO) operations, you will provide valuable assurance and insight that helps drive continuous improvement, compliance and operational safety. This is a Monday to Friday role however some flexibility will be required depending on audit schedules and based out of the Perth Airport.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Champion safety as a core value across all aspects of the operation
- Actively support, uphold and promote the MinRes Air Safety Management System (SMS)
- Deliver the MinRes Air annual audit program, including conducting safety audits across internal and external departments, suppliers and organisations, both on-site and desktop-based
- Provide regular updates to the Head of Safety Systems (HOSS) and CASR Part 145 AMO Quality and Safety Manager (QSM) on the progress and status of the internal and external audit program
- Prepare and issue audit reports in line with the MinRes Air SMS, ensuring compliance with established audit procedures
- Lead and coordinate safety investigations, while also supporting the HOSS and/or AMO QSM with technical and safety investigations as required
- Contribute to and assist with key safety forums, including the Safety Review Committee (SRC), Safety Action Group (SAG) and Safety Review Board (SRB), as required
- Prepare reports and present audit and investigation outcomes to the SRB
- Support the ongoing maintenance and monitoring of MinRes Air’s Safety Performance Indicators (SPIs)
- Monitor industry developments and emerging safety concerns, providing timely advice to the HOSS and AMO QSM where relevant
- Undertake delegated responsibilities for and on behalf of the HOSS as required
- Collaborate closely with safety and quality personnel across MinRes Air’s air transport operations and the CASR Part 145 approved maintenance organisation environment
- Fulfil the responsibilities of a CASA-recognised Drug and Alcohol Management Plan (DAMP) Contact Officer and DAMP Supervisor
- Perform the duties of Base Security Delegate in accordance with the MinRes Air Transport Security Program (TSP)
What will you bring?
- Demonstrated aviation safety assurance experience, with the capability to lead and manage safety assurance functions in line with the MinRes Air’s annual audit program
- Proven experience in successfully delivering assurance activities within an air transport operations environment
- Strong safety and regulatory knowledge, with the ability to conduct audits and investigations that support the MinRes Air SMS
- Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills
- Sound understanding of risk management and human factors principles
- Formal training in lead auditing and safety investigation
- Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear, accurate and professional reports
- Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Office, and the ability to quickly learn MinRes Air’s SMS reporting software
- Demonstrated ability to act with confidence and integrity, while fostering a reporting, learning and just culture in an open, supportive and non-punitive environment
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively, confidently and positively with a range of stakeholders
- Ability to obtain and maintain an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC)
