The Opportunity

The Senior Underground Longterm Planning Engineer will provide technical direction to MinRes Lithium mine site operations and corporate stakeholders, to deliver MinRes objectives through optimised, accurate and repeatable underground mine plans and designs.

This role involves having strong technical long-term planning experience, mining technical study skills, skilled mining software (Deswik) capability, and the ability to communicate long-term plans, options, and quantify risk trade-offs to business stakeholders.

For this position you will report directly to the Principal Longterm Planning Engineer and be part of our long-term planning team, you will be based at our HQ office on Osborne Park, with regular visits onsite.

Key responsibilities:

  • Responsible for delivering long-term underground designs, schedules, options, cost and value trade-offs, for studies, 2 Year budgets, 5 year plans, and life of mine plans.
  • Contribute and deliver components of mining Concept, Pre- Feasibility (PFS), Feasibility (FS) and due diligence studies.
  • Undertake cut off grade analysis, mining method selection, stope optimisation, development and infrastructure design, scheduling, and financial analysis.
  • Develop and implement consistent mine planning systems, procedures, standards, and templates to support transparent communication of mine plans from long-term to short-term horizons.
  • Work proactively with risk, safety, geology, geotechnical, environmental, approvals, engineering, and implementation teams to ensure mine plans include appropriate constraints and activities so plans are technically robust and operationally feasible.
  • Visit underground project and operational sites on a monthly basis and as required to engage with site personnel, review progress against plan, refine designs and schedules, and execute projects.
  • Support the mining approvals process by identifying and incorporating mining approval requirements into mine plans, schedules, and budgets.
  • Communicate mine plans to stakeholders.
  • Support site personnel to implement mine plans and budgets.

 

What is required:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering or relevant qualifications
  • Extensive experience within underground planning/operations
  • Highly proficient in the Deswik suite of mine planning products across underground optimisation, design, and scheduling.
  • Mine planning optimisation and mining method selection at the PFS or Life Of Mine level.
  • Exposure to infrastructure planning and economic assessments.
  • Previous experience in large scale, complex underground mining environments.
  • Experience with paste-fill and ventilation design preferable.
  • Self-managed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven experience in meeting deadlines and agility to achieve project directives.
