The Superintendent Marine is responsible to manage port operation productivity, safety, and strategic alignment as our MinRes transhipment operation expands for our Onslow Iron Ore Project. 

 

This role is a crucial interface between the Port, Marine, and Mining Operations teams and the Port Authority, ensuring the project achieves maximum productivity in a safe and efficient manner. You will oversee scheduling, resource allocation, and fleet utilization to minimize downtime, whilst addressing any vessel matters and operational challenges proactively.  

 

This position will report directly to the Manager of Port Operations and you will be based at our HQ office on Osborne Park, and on occasions oversee the project up onsite as the business requires.

 

• Supervise safety and efficiency of the MinRes Onslow Iron Port Facility Port Marine Operations and pilotage operations

• Supervise safety and efficiency of MinRes transhipment and cargo operations of MinRes Transhipment Vessels fleet

• Development of the Port Facility compliance documentation and Marine Operations documents as required.

• Ensure Mineral Resources documentation compliance with Australian and International standards and regulations

• Optimise Port Support Fleet and TSV Operations

• Supervise the design and implementation of the Port Communications Centre.

• Supervise Vessel Traffic System to optimise safe and efficient operations

• Supervise the movement of marine-related plant, equipment and stores in and around the quayside operational area

 

• Diploma or above in Relevant Marine Industry qualification 

• General Logistics or Port Operations qualification (or equivalent experience)

• Extensive experience of Marine Project or Marine Operations and Port Operations experience

• Vessel Traffic Systems and Port Communications development and operations (desirable)

• sea-going experience (desirable)

• Supervising cargo operations, fuel bunkering and other port-related activities

• General Supply Chain experience (desirable)

• Class 1 Marine Engineer or alternate senior AMSA Certification (preferred).

• High level of initiative, planning and drive to deliver outcomes.

• Strong leadership and influencing skills.

The Onslow Port covers the coastal component of the Onslow Iron Project. The site is currently under construction, with first ore expected mid-2024. Central to Onslow Iron’s success will be its innovative transhipping solution, which will allow MinRes to ship millions of tonnes of ore without the need for a deep-water port. The resort style accommodation village on Onslow Beach will set a new industry standard for an anticipated 450 workers.
