The Opportunity

The Category Specialist plays a key role in supporting the development and execution of sourcing strategies for road haulage and mining equipment categories. This role focuses on delivering commercial value, ensuring supply continuity, and supporting operational excellence across mining, haulage, transport, and related services. You will have the ability to work closely with internal stakeholders and suppliers to drive performance, manage contracts, and contribute to strategic procurement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and execution of Category Plans for Road haulage and mining equipment categories
  • Support strategic sourcing activities including market analysis, supplier evaluation, and tender processes.
  • Contribute to the identification of cost-saving opportunities and value creation initiatives.
  • Coordinate sourcing events (RFIs/RFPs), prepare documentation, and support negotiation processes.
  • Ensure contracts are aligned with operational requirements, safety standards, and compliance obligations.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across Operations, Maintenance, Logistics, and Finance to understand service needs and priorities. Provide procurement insights and support decision-making
  • Support the development and maintenance of contractor panels for haulage and operational services.
  • Monitor supplier performance against agreed KPIs, including delivery, safety, and responsiveness.

What is Required

  • Tertiary qualifications in Supply Chain, Business, or Engineering.
  • Experience in category management within mining or heavy industry.
  • Experience supporting large-scale tenders and contractor management.
  • Understanding of site-based operations and safety compliance requirements.
  • In depth knowledge of Road haulage and mining equipment categories (costing elements, rates calculations, transport logistics, and operational service categories.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in procurement systems (e.g.Coupa) and Microsoft Office tools.
