The Opportunity
Reporting through to The Director Legal & Commercial, the Manager Legal – Litigation will be responsible for leading and managing the organisation’s litigation and disputes, providing oversight and legal representation across corporate, commercial, and mining-related disputes. This role ensures the company’s legal risks are effectively managed, litigation processes are handled efficiently, and outcomes align with the organisation’s strategic and commercial objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage all litigation, arbitration, and regulatory proceedings affecting the company, including significant corporate and mining disputes.
- Develop and implement litigation strategies that balance risk management with commercial pragmatism.
- Advise senior executives and operational teams on contentious matters, including contract breaches, joint venture disputes, regulatory enforcement, and shareholder actions.
- Engage, brief, and manage external counsel and expert witnesses in complex proceedings.
- Conduct in-depth reviews of claims, pleadings, and evidence, ensuring consistency with corporate objectives and statutory obligations.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to implement practical dispute avoidance strategies and early resolution mechanisms.
- Maintain robust reporting systems to track ongoing litigation, costs, and exposure.
- Provide training and guidance across the business on litigation risk, discovery obligations, and dispute management processes.
- Support regulatory reporting concerning significant legal exposures and ongoing matters.
Qualifications, Experience & Attributes
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or equivalent with a current Australian practising certificate (WA preferred).
- 10+ years’ post-admission experience, including 5+ in senior roles within corporate and mining litigation.
- Proven capability in managing complex commercial, contractual, and regulatory disputes.
- Strong knowledge of ASX disclosure, corporate governance, and risk management.
- Commercial mindset with the ability to balance legal risk and business outcomes.
- Effective collaborator with executives, operational teams, and external counsel.
- Respected leader with strong mentoring, influencing, and team-building skills.
- High integrity, sound judgment, and a pragmatic, solution-focused approach.
- Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, and communication abilities.
